What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injections used to smooth out creases and wrinkles in the skin. They can also be used to increase the volume and definition of the lips and cheeks. The fillers are made from a variety of materials and the effects can be either temporary or permanent, depending on the type of filler, hyaluronic acid based filler is used at Evolve and lasts about four to six months.

As we age our skin loses ‘body', it sadly wrinkles and folds start to appear. Hyaluronic acid is found in the dermis of the skin and is a natural occurring substance in our body. The production of hyaluronic acid decreases as we age, resulting in visible signs of ageing. You can think of hyaluronic acid like a ‘sponge’, helping to retain water in the skin, keeping it smooth and healthy. By injecting hyaluronic acid-based fillers, it can help to give the face a rejuvenated appearance, providing support and structure- ‘plumping up’ the skin. Dermal fillers are non-animal and are man made. 

 

How long is the treatment?

A dermal filler treatment on average will take no less than an hour. It may be uncomfortable, but should not be very painful. When you arrive for lip fillers a topical numbing cream will be applied to the area before treated for 30 minutes. The filler is then injected into the skin with a very fine needle in small doses.

How long do dermal fillers last?

This varies depending on place of fillers and metabolism, they can last 6-24 months dependent on the treatment site chosen. If you chose not to continue the filler it will gradually biodegrade into the skin and disappear.

When will I see results?

Instantly. There may be swelling, redness and tenderness which usually subsides after a few days. Slight bruising may also occur, you should avoid alcohol which can contribute. You can resume to your usual daily routine after dermal filler treatment and no recovery time is needed.
